Introduction
There are many companies that have excellent technologies but fail to use them in their products or services. Unfortunately, no one wants to buy or use a product unless its strong points are made clear. How can these strong points be conveyed to consumers?
In order to do that, the active use of design is indispensable. Here, “design” is not merely meant as something that provides a good appearance. Rather, design should also convey a message.
In particular, in our modern society overflowing with information, design plays a key role as a means of communication that goes beyond language. Needless to say, to be able to quickly and accurately comprehend something in a stress-free manner is a critical factor regarding any product or service.
Today, the importance of design is attracting attention in many fields, including government. However, the value and means of usage of design have not yet been fully understood.
For many years I have been deeply involved in consultations for product development focusing on design and strategy creation for use of intellectual property rights. Thus, I have a great amount of experience regarding the value of design. I am now committed to the active promotion of the usage of design and IP human resource development.
Japan excels in technologies in fields ranging from high-tech to traditional craftsmanship. Accordingly, it is highly desirable to proactivley utilize design in order to promote the enrichment of the lives of people and society as a whole.
At the Watanabe Tomoko International Patent Office we promote the active use of design, we protect the value of newly created designs utilizing the intellectual property rights system, and we support business development through the active use of intellectual property rights.
